it was only yesterday during my weekday day off (vacation day) that the SO and i were discussing the state of the economy in the truck on the way to doing errands.
“the recession is weird to me, because i haven’t really felt the effects of it. i mean, i saw that the gas prices went up and down, but my gas expense only went up a few dollars with each fill up since it’s a motorcycle. but otherwise, i haven’t felt it,” i contemplated thoughtfully.
“i have!” reminded the SO, that he got laid off end of june. “you’re lucky that you haven’t had to feel it though.” thankfully, the SO found a new job quite easily about a month and a half ago (only have 3 months of not working, with a severance pay, and unemployment checks (albeit only after a bit of a headache).
little did i know that i would walk into work this morning, only to be asked to talk with my manager in his office, closed the door, and be told that i had to be laid off.
shock.
it would be a few hours before i could gather my wits about me to text-message the SO what had happened, and to call him with details of the bewildering turn of events.
please forgive me in advance as i may falter off and on with my writing as i come to terms with this recent turn of events.
the irony though, that i had to come up with a recession related article for a group writing project for DBN this weekend. i guess this (along with part 2) is it.
update: not recession-proof, part 2
